Congratulations Thomas Nicholson

On Saturday, May 14, 2005, Thomas Ledbetter Nicholson III, son of Tom and Luanne Nicholson was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps. Retired Air Force Colonel John Harbison administered the oath to his nephew, Tommy, and his grandmother, Bonnie Hauser, participated in the ceremony, along with his parents. Tommy received the SECNAV Distinguished Midshipman Graduate Award and the Patrick K. Connor Aviation Leadership Award. These awards are presented to one graduating midshipman who demonstrates the highest standards of leadership, academic and military performance
while serving within the battalion organization.

COL Jack C. Zeigler

          Colonel Jack C. Zeigler, Jr. is a native of Florence, South Carolina.  He graduated from Presbyterian College in Clinton, South Carolina, in December 1979 and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Infantry.  His first assignment was to the 1st Battalion, 6th Infantry Regiment in Illeshiem, Germany, where he served as a Mechanized Infantry Platoon Leader, Scout Platoon Leader, and Rifle Company Executive Officer.
           Col. Zeigler served in Washington , D.C. as the Training Officer for the Office of Military Support, Military District of Washington and as an intern assigned to J3, Special Operations Division, the Joint Staff.  After attending the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, he returned to Fort Bragg in June 1993 and was assigned as the Executive Officer, 1st Battalion, 3d SFG(A).  In June 1994, he was reassigned as the 3d  Group S-3.  In September 1994, COL Zeigler deployed with 3d SFG(A) on Operation UPHOLD DEMOCRACY  where he served as the Operations Officer for the U.S. Army Special Operations Task Force, Haiti .  He returned from Haiti in March 1995 and resumed his duties as the 3d SFG(A)  S-3.  In April 1996, COL Zeigler was selected to serve as the Executive Officer to the Commanding General, United States Army Special Operations Command (USASOC).  In June 1997, he returned to 3d  SFG(A) to serve as the Deputy Commanding Officer.  In July 1998, COL Zeigler was assigned as the Battalion Commander, 3d Battalion, 3d SFG(A).  From July 2000 to July 2002, COL Zeigler served as the Assistant Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations, USASOC.  In 2002, COL Zeigler attended the U.S. Army War College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, and he returned to USASOC to serve as the Inspector General in June 2003.  From June 2005 to June 2007, COL Zeigler commanded the 1st Special Warfare Training Group (Airborne).  COL Zeigler currently serves as the Chief of Staff for the U.S. Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School.
        Colonel Zeigler’s military awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Expert Infantryman Badge, the Joint Staff Identification Badge, the Special Forces Tab, the Master Parachutists Badge, the Military Freefall Parachutists Badge, and the Ranger Tab.  He has conducted airborne operations in Italy, Botswana and Swaziland and has been awarded their parachutist badges.
         Colonel Zeigler is married to the former Janice Rebecca Lawhon of Effingham, South Carolina.  They have two children, Lauren 21  and Jack III 18.
