Hunkered Down Devotion

Psalm 147:10-11 (Voice)
10 He takes no pleasure in the raw strength of horses; He finds no joy in the speed of the sprinter.
11 But the Eternal does take pleasure in those who worship Him, those who invest hope in His unfailing love.

Often these devotionals are all about examining our lives and figuring out how we can grow closer to who God has called and created us to be.  This is for good reason.  For most of us, there is a lot of room in between where we are and where God is calling us to be.

Sometimes, however, all of us just need to hear a word of encouragement and be reminded of God’s great love for each and every one of us.  Sometimes we need to be made aware of the joy and pleasure that God finds simply in being in relationship with us.  This is one of those times.

I don’t know how this message will find you today: you might be having a rough week, you might be at your wits end; or you might feel like everything if finally going right.  Wherever you are this week, whatever condition your heart and your soul is in this week, this is a message from God just for you.

The creator of the universe, the One that imagined and then spoke everything into existence doesn’t get pleasure in the things that are the most majestic or the most powerful things in this world.  What are the things that bring joy and pleasure to God, what is it that brings a smile to God’s face?  It’s you.

It brings God joy when you make the choice worship him with your words, with your actions, and with your life.  It brings God joy when you make the choice to trust in Jesus.  It brings God joy when you ‘invest hope’ in Jesus.  It brings joy and pleasure to God when share our hope and trust in him with others.

And don’t miss this – it isn’t when you are perfect that you bring God joy.  It isn’t when you are the best, or the strongest, or the smartest, or the fastest that brings God joy.  It is just you that brings God joy.  It is simply when you choose to live into who God created you to be.

Sharing God’s Love,
Chip

Prayer:  Thank you, Lord, for creating us and for finding joy in us and in who we are.  Help us to live into the people that you created us to be – people that bring you joy.  Amen.
