Hunkered Down Devotion

James 1:16-18 (Voice)
16 My dearly loved brothers and sisters, don’t be misled. 17 Every good gift bestowed, every perfect gift received comes to us from above, courtesy of the Father of lights. He is consistent. He won’t change His mind or play tricks in the shadows. 18 We have a special role in His plan. He calls us to life by His message of truth so that we will show the rest of His creatures His goodness and love.

He is consistent.  When you are looking for someone to trust, someone that you can count on and rely on, consistent is a good starting place.  And God is certainly that.  God, as the scripture says, doesn’t change his mind and won’t play tricks.  We don’t think much about God playing tricks on us, but for the ancients, this was a big deal.

For most of the ancient world, their perception of the relationship between God or gods and humanity was that people were the playthings of the gods – the kind of things you would see in Greek or Roman mythology.  But that isn’t the kind of relationship that God wants with us.  As James tells us, not only does God not want to play a trick on us, we have a special place and a special role in God’s plan.

We are called to be the ambassadors of God’s love and life to the rest of the world.  We are told over and over again is scripture that God’s plan if to reconcile all of the world to himself.  We are the instruments of that plan.  We are the ones sent out into the world to share the good news.

To act as an ambassador – sharing God’s message of light and love – telling the world the good news that Jesus love if for them.  Our call is to go out into every corner, every dark and cold place in this world and reflect the light and heat of God’s saving love and grace that comes for each and every one of us.

Sharing God’s Love,
Chip

Prayer:  Lord, send us out with your message of love and grace as ambassadors of your kingdom.  Amen.
